Independent On Sunday Cover
At last I’ve managed to get a copy of the Independent on Sunday which had a cover image on the Section 2 from my ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’ series. My Aunie Rosemary and Les were the stars, so it’s now official that she is now the supermodel I’ve always thought her to be!
New Series of Only Connect Commission
The production company Presentable have just confirmed me as the stills photographer for the next series of Only Connect for BBC4 to be filmed in Cardiff. Great news and looking forward to it.
Stella 2 with Ruth Jones success!
At last Series 2 is showing on Sky TV after spending 5 months shooting the stills last year. A fantastic experience working on a film set compared to the pressures and limitations of shooting a live show in the studio. Having invested in the latest Aquatech sound blimp I can now shoot during filming next to or near the film camera, actually capturing the expressions and feeling the actors are giving on set with each take. The main problem now trying to make myself invisible and not get in the way. I quickly learned that the stills photographer is just about the only person on set who can be removed without it making any difference at all to the film being shot!
It was awesome to work with such fantastic people who to a man/woman was so dedicated to their profession. I thought I knew lighting (and I do) but seeing Llyr Evans work with lights, from 10K’s on a cherry picker to little hand held devices no bigger than a dim torch, showed me many new techniques and possibilities I’d never considered. With camera sensors getting better year on year I’m now convinced the use of flash is a dieing art and continuous lighting is the future.
A big THANK YOU to David Peet the series producer and Ruth Jones for a great summer, making me feel so welcome and the many laughs on set. It’s a great show that has already got 1.3 million people watching weekly which will only grow as word spreads. Ruth Jones has nailed it with her script because of her hilarious take on characters we all know in our communities.
A beautiful find on the West coast of Wales is the beach by the Druidstone Hotel in Pembrokeshire. A special place where even a professional photographer can simply take his/her camera for a walk and be spoilt for places to point the lens and renew their love of photography.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!!
Peace, Love and a Happy New Year to you all.
Here’s a pic of my cousin Tim after taking his New Years Day dip in the freezing Atlantic. He is a braver man than I or would you say more foolish? That all depends on your point of view, but I want his energy levels when I’m 50 years old.
He also takes a good picture!
Woman’s Institute Bus Advertising Campaign
Here’s some members of the Woman’s Institute next to their bus advert using one of my images from October to November 2012. I’m so pleased they managed to get 3 new WI’s from the campaign and Patience Broad of the WI said “we are thrilled with the response” and “it raised our profile hugely”.
It’s so satisfying when when people get such a success and makes being a photographer sooooo rewarding. It’s not just the taking of pretty pictures but how they are used and where!
At Last A New Site!
Well finally I’m up and running with a new site after 7 years of the same, unchanged pictures. My old site had all the images coded into it meaning I couldn’t simply update at will.
I’m really looking forward to being able to upload pictures as I shoot them, or more than likely a little while after so not as to get into trouble with clients by posting images before I’m allowed. I will also be posting news of jobs, projects, likes and dislikes as well as commenting on the pros and cons of the equipment I use. Finally I’m personally entering the age of social media after being employed in it for so long!
The timing of the site is not perfect for news posts however, as we’re heading into that baron part of the year of Christmas and the new year where all my clients get into that party spirit. A problem I’m sure 90% of freelancers get. I will still be shooting though and will post some of my efforts here as well as random snaps if they are not quite up to portfolio standards, or are just of interest like this one outside Bath police station. Now that’s what I call hiding in plain sight!
Please feel free to drop me a line with any comments. Constructive criticism is most welcome too.
Well, here we go and I hope you enjoy the site.
